Thora Amend is Vice-chair governance of the IUCN commission on protected and conserved areas. As a trained ethnologist, geographer and linguist, with a PhD on protected area management, she works as a strategic advisor to the Euroclima+ program and projects for GIZ. Thora has several decades of experience in integrated conservation and development approaches, with a focus on equity and governance aspects, concept development, training and communication. She has worked more than 30 years in Latin America, Asia and Africa for German development cooperation and other organizations, at local scales and systems level.
