Prof. Stanley STEVENS

Senior lecturer, University of Massachusetts Amherst

Dr. Stan Stevens is a geographer and political ecologist.  Prior to retirement he was a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA.  Stan is a long-time member of the WCPA and CEESP and an honorary member of the ICCA Consortium. He has worked on ICCA and protected area issues for nearly forty years, including five years of field research in and around Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) National Park, Nepal.  Stan is the lead editor and author of the draft guidelines on recognizing and respecting ICCAs overlapped by protected areas and its companion volume.  He also is the author of a book on Sherpa land use, management, and conservation in the Mt. Everest region and the lead editor and author of three volumes on Indigenous peoples, protected areas, and rights-based conservation.
