Pierre BAHUREL is the Director General of Mercator Ocean International, one of the world's leading operational oceanography organisations providing an operational digital description of the marine environment worldwide. He is deeply involved in the international development of operational oceanography. Mercator Ocean is entrusted by international bodies with public interest assignments such as marine services, foreign policy missions and R&D projects. As such, Pierre is leading the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service of the European Union which is recognized worldwide as the global leader in providing reliable, state-of-the-art, core marine information online. He is also chair of the UN expert team on Operational Ocean Forecast Systems to support the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO in leveraging ocean science and technology into a genuine Digital Ocean, an indispensable tool for achieving a sustainable ocean.
