Mr Philippe MAYAUX
Team Leader Biodiversity, European Commission - DG International Partnerships
Dr Philippe Mayaux graduated as forest engineer, master in urban planning and PhD in forestry from Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium). Since 1988, he has been working on the monitoring and management of natural resources in Africa from Earth observation. He joined the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in 1995, working successively on tropical deforestation, land-cover mapping and biodiversity-related information systems, with a particular focus on Central Africa, with more than 60 peer-reviewed publications. Since 2014, he is leading the team “Biodiversity and ecosystem services” at the DG International Partnerships of the European Commission. In that position, Philippe is coordinating the EU support on biodiversity to partner countries in Africa, Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific and has coordinated the reports on EU biodiversity strategy in these continents (Larger than... Elephants, Tigers, Jaguars).
