This session will present an example of how our indigenous leadership has been effective in changing the way that science and conservation practitioners traditionally work – to be more in-line with traditional values and therefore more effective.
We will present concrete examples of this integrated way of working along with some of the long-term outcomes. The perspectives from which you will hear include an indigenous female leader, and a member of our younger generation.
We will explain how we have reached out to our Pacific relatives to form a network of indigenous ocean leaders because, we believe, through collectivising on an international scale, we can overcome limiting jurisdictional boundaries to achieve holistic environmental and social outcomes.
