The Yellow Sea - A Global Heritage: Towards Transboundary Governance and Management

The session will engage participants on a dialogue and a visionning exercise on strengthening the transboundary conservation of the largest intertidal wetlands on the planet, the mudflats of the Yellow Sea, shared by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of Korea.

This side-event is organised under the umbrella of WCC 2016 Resolution 26 on Conservation of intertidal habitats and migratory waterbirds of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. It will involve representatives from Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of Korea as well as international organisations to discuss opportunities for continued transboundary cooperation for the conservation,management and restoration of the intertidal wetlands of the Yellow Sea. The event will engage participants in a dialogue on opportunities for strengthened and harmonized regional approaches to the protection, management and restoration of those ecosystems, looking at the IUCN programme and associated resolutions and other mechanisms (e.g. EAAFP, the World Heritage Convention and Ramsar). The event will also discuss the priorities for a proposed WCC motion on intertidal wetlands of the Yellow sea.
