Citizen journalism: shaping the future of environmental journalism

Pourquoi assister à cette session?
Through this session, participants will understand how citizen journalism can empower local communities to become environmental advocates
HideDescription
In this session, the IUCN Asia Regional Communications Unit will present how citizen journalism, a new and emerging tool available to people at the grassroots level, can empower communities to be active environmental actors. The session will showcase the effectiveness of citizen journalism by presenting best practices and lessons learned from Mekong WET, a wetlands conservation project implemented by IUCN Asia in the Indo-Burma region. At the session, a local community member will also share first-hand experience of how he/show was able to raise awareness about how climate change affects his or her life, through citizen journalism. The overall objective of the session is to promote the effectiveness of citizen journalism and the media in raising awareness about environmental and development challenges, amongst all levels – from grassroots to government.
