The session promotes a community-of-practice to complement IUCN guidelines to better address conservation in conflict zones. Conflict encompasses armed conflict, socio-cultural conflict between different groups of people, and human-nature conflict between people and the natural world. Continuing discussions from WCC 2016 in Honolulu, the session will draw upon the experiences of CSOs, INGOs, government representatives, indigenous speakers, and academic scholars associated with conflict zones to share experiences and lessons which can be synthesized into recommendations for practice that complement existing IUCN guidelines for conservation in conflict zones.
