At the UN General Assembly, NGOs, institutions and businesses issued a Call to Action for an overarching Nature-Positive Global Goal which with other goals could create an “equitable, carbon-neutral, nature-positive world” . “Nature-positive” means not just zero net loss of biodiversity, but also to contribute to the recovery and improvement of nature in the longer term. Three measurable objectives have been proposed: Zero Net Loss from 2020, Net Positive by 2030, and Full Recovery by 2050. The goal encompasses carbon neutrality, i.e. net-zero emissions by 2050. A nature-positive and carbon-neutral goal will result in healthier ecosystems, that underpin human wellbeing and a sustainable economy. The Mediterranean is one of the richest ecoregions and is also a melting pot of cultures and home of outstanding traditions of nature management - yet threatened by many unsustainability drivers.
