Prof. Kazuaki HOSHINO
Special Envoy for Nature Conservation to IUCN-WCC, Ministry of the Environment of Japan
Mr. Kazuaki HOSHINO has been serving at a senior capacity in environmental policy administration as a nature conservation specialist in the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local government, since entering public service in 1978.
As chief negotiator for the MOEJ and bureau member of the CBD, he played a critical role leading up to the success of CBD/COP10 in Nagoya, helping to negotiate an agreement on the Aichi Targets. After COP10, he chaired the CBD bureau meetings on behalf of the COP10 President.
As Director General of Nature Conservation Bureau at the MOEJ, he co-chaired the first Asia Parks Congress in 2013, which led to the launch of the Asia Protected Areas Partnership at IUCN World Parks Congress in 2014.
After he worked for Kagoshima University as a professor from2015 to 2020, he currently serves on the Supervisory Council of Wetlands International.
