Reverse the Red - Action against Asian songbird tracking: motion 120

Considering the multiple severe threats posed by the global trade in songbird species, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) is working in partnership on a number of actions to reverse this situation. The session will focus on sharing the development, activities, challenges and successes of the EAZA Conservation Campaign ‘Silent Forest’. This campaign was undertaken in partnership with the IUCN Asian Songbird Trade Specialist Group, Birdlife International, and TRAFFIC. It supported on-the-ground projects, and increased knowledge, awareness and commitment to do action within and beyond the zoo community. It also acted as a catalyst towards development of motion 120: Action against Asian songbird trafficking and a number of other ongoing actions on this topic. The session will outline in situ and ex situ conservation actions and how they are being integrated under a One Plan approach in order to address the requests in the operating paragraphs of the motion.
