Alliances of communities, funders and practitioners to integrate culture and nature in conservation

Pourquoi assister à cette session?
This session presents experiences and lessons of integrating nature and culture for landscape and seascape conservation. MAVA will invite communities, funders and practitioners to discuss perspectives about nature and culture. Can the 3 sectors build useful alliances for supporting local people’s cultures and environments and achieve conservation?
HideDescription
Human communities’ knowledge, values, practices and traditions have shaped the world’s landscapes and places through resource use and interactions with nature, and have also created approaches of stewardship and caring for the land by local people. The MAVA Foundation’s support to the cultural practices of societies for sustainability and conservation of landscapes and seascapes has encouraged their direct and responsible management of lands, waters and resources, and has contributed to the development of their capacities. MAVA will showcase experiences of integration of culture in conservation in its programmes in the Mediterranean and West Africa. It will also demonstrate the value of building partnerships of the funding sector with communities and practitioners for integrated approaches that bring nature and culture together in landscape conservation.
