Urban Planet
It is ultimately in cities that our Union's vision of "a just world that values and conserves nature" will flourish or flounder. Home to the surging majority of humanity, cities are centres of production and consumption, hotbeds of innovation and beacons of culture. They weigh heavily on the biosphere but carry promises of renewal: does urbanisation present our greatest hope of building a truly ecological civilisation? Join us in advancing a global movement for greener cities!
Cities account for the lion’s share of natural resource consumption and contribute disproportionately to climate change, biodiversity loss, waste and pollution. Their ecological impacts are felt almost everywhere, even in the remotest remnants of wilderness. Re-naturing cities and curbing their ecological footprints are conservation imperatives of the highest order. The prize is a more beautiful, liveable, resilient and sustainable future for humanity. In pursuit of that future, the Urban Planet Pavilion provides a central gathering place for:
- Learning from leading urban experts and engaging in lively debates
- Sharing and amplifying success stories from cities across the world
- Forging partnerships for urban action
Topics on the agenda include urban planning and design; nature-based solutions; the nature-culture agenda; assessment, monitoring and evaluation; and global sustainability frameworks. Join us in advancing a global movement for greener cities!
