Balancing development, conservation, and social issues related to mining

Why attend
This session will bring together key stakeholders (including mining companies, communities, governments, and conservationists) that are involved in and impacted by mining to discuss approaches to ensure responsible practices that decrease negative impacts, and ensure equitable and durable benefits to nature and society.
HideDescription
Extraction of natural resources has increased markedly in the past several decades and this growth is projected to continue. Furthermore, economic dependence on the extractives industry is significant in many countries. From a conservation and development perspective, engagement with the mining sector is a major imperative. This session will bring together key stakeholders (including mining companies, communities, governments, and conservationists) that are involved in and impacted by mining to discuss approaches to ensure responsible practices that decrease negative impacts, and ensure equitable and durable benefits to nature and society.
