P. Madeira obtained her PhD in Biodiversity and Biology at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (2019). She is currently a post-doctoral researcher at CIBIO-Açores, University of the Açores. Her research interests are focused on biogeographic relationships of echinoderm faunas in the Atlantic and patterns and processes of dispersion, colonization and speciation of shallow water echinoderms in oceanic islands and seamounts. Her research also focuses on Pleistocene and Mio-Pliocene echinoderm faunas of the northeast Atlantic archipelagos (Azores, Madeira, Canaries e Cape Verde). Currently, she is also involved in projects aiming at developing of digital tools such as on-line databases for harnessing, storing and exchange (palaeo)biodiversity data and information. She has also been involved in several outreach projects, aiming to the increase of science literacy, specially those related to the promotion of marine palaeo- and biodiversity.
