DISCUSS: Fish Tales - Narratives for Freshwater

HideDescripción
Indigenous peoples and local communities around the world protect rivers and lakes and the species they are home to. Their lives are often deeply entwined with these ecosystems and their traditional knowledge is key to their protection. At the same time, a small number of conservation institutions dedicate their focus to conserving freshwater ecosystems and species. Conversations about cultural connection with freshwater and about freshwater ecology and conservation often take place in siloes. In this session, indigenous freshwater custodians, scientists and conservation managers will share stories about their deep personal connection with fish – and freshwater – and together explore how to strengthen alliances to develop a holistic, shared narrative about the importance of freshwater conservation.
