A whole of society approach to climate action and litigation

Very clearly, the IPCC Special Report on “Global Warming of 1.5°C” stated that limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires rapid and far-reaching transitions in energy, land, urban and infrastructure, and industrial systems. These systems transitions are unprecedented in terms of scale and imply deep emissions reductions in all sectors, a wide portfolio of mitigation options, and a significant upscaling of investments in those options. Yet, climate action commensurate with the paradigm shift science says is needed, is still insufficient. Within this context, this session will discuss the importance of adopting a whole of society approach to climate action, including through litigation, underscoring the relevant roles of civil society and youth, science, and academia in this necessary paradigm shift.
