Launch of the Species Threat Abatement and Restoration metric (STAR) in IBAT (Central Stage C)

The Species Threat Abatement and Restoration metric (STAR) estimates the potential contributions of specific nature-positive actions in specific places towards international biodiversity targets. STAR can help all actors – businesses, governments and civil society – to better plan projects that would bring benefits for threatened species, assess biodiversity risk, and align contributions to achieve global targets. Built from the common experience of nearly a hundred experts working in 54 institutions in 29 countries around the world, STAR quantifies how mitigating specific threats to biodiversity in specific places can change the likelihood of species extinction. This session will explore what STAR is and why it is useful, how STAR scores are calculated and how STAR can be applied to a variety of private and public sector applications.
