Secretary General and CEO, World Evangelical Alliance (WEA)

Prof. Dr. theol. Dr. phil. Thomas Schirrmacher, PhD, DD, (born 1960) is Secretary General and CEO of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), which networks churches with appr. 600 million conservative Protestant Christians. Furthermore, he is President of the International Council of the International Society for Human Rights and Director of the International Institute for Religious Freedom, the largest research network for religious freedom and against persecution of Christians and other religions and world views. Schirrmacher is extraordinary professor of the sociology of religion at the state University of the West in Timisoara (Romania) and teaches also at Regent’s Park College of Oxford University. He is also founder of ‘Martin Bucer European Theological Seminary and Research Institutes’, where he teaches social ethics and comparative religions. Schirrmacher has given guest lectures at more than 200 universities and institutions around the globe.
