According to the World Bank, there are two billion people living in fragile or conflict-affected contexts−conditions that will encompass 46% of the global poor by 2030. Many of these countries host important sites of biodiversity and will be seriously impacted by climate change. The intersection of fragility with other threats, such as climate change and weak governance, is correlated with incidence of conflict, which can undermine biodiversity and conservation objectives. Conservation International recognizes that these conditions represent threats to conservation and human well-being, the two central tenets of our mission, and is collaborating with the PeaceNexus Foundation to integrate conflict sensitivity as a proactive approach for ensuring the sustainability of its work across increasingly fragile environments. The practical experience and tools developed so far through this collaboration will be presented by representatives from both organizations.
