Dr José COURRAU

Dr. José Courrau is a Costa Rican expert in biodiversity conservation, with more than 35 years of experience. He started his career in the National Park Service of Costa Rica. He has worked for government agencies, international organizations (IUCN, UNESCO), universities (University of Queensland, Australia) and international NGOs (WWF, TNC and CI). He has distinguished himself internationally on issues related to protected areas. Dr. Courrau has contributed to the conservation of biodiversity in various countries around the world. Currently, he works for IUCN, in the Regional Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. From this position, Dr. Courrau is responsible for various aspects related to the conservation of biodiversity, in particular, the management effectiveness of protected areas, the Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, the World Heritage Convention, the List Red Species and Red List of Ecosystems.
