Chair, Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime

CEO, Elephant Protection Initiative Foundation, Chair, Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime and Chair, UK Government’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund. Former Secretary-General of CITES (2010-2018), and first Special Envoy for African Parks (2018-2020). Previous international posts include senior positions with IUCN, Germany and UNEP, Kenya. In Australia, started career in private legal practice, and later served as CEO, Department of Environment, Heritage and Aboriginal Affairs, Commissioner, Murray Darling Basin Commission and adviser to State and Federal Environment Ministers.  Founding Chair, Environmental Defender’s Office, South Australia (1992). Awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to wildlife conservation and protection through roles with international organizations (2019).
