Prof. Hillary MASUNDIRE
Professor of Ecology, University of Botswana
Hillary is a Zimbabwean national who has lived in Botswana since 1994 working for the University of Botswana. He is a Professor of Ecology. His PhD research was on the Ecology of Lake Kariba, one the largest human-made lakes which is now more than 60 years old.
He started volunteering for IUCN in the late 80's in southern Africa when he contributed to various publications on freshwater ecosystem and and wetlands Ecology. He took part in the IUCN Water for Nature that birthed the IUCN Water Programme. He has actively participated in various local and global activities including the World Commission on Dams, the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the World Water Forum. He served as the Chair of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management for up to 2008. He has been involved in several EIA studies relating to Water infrastructure developments as well as climate change impacts on freshwater ecosystems.
