Director of Global Strategy, Amazon Sacred Headwaters Initiative / Iniciativa de Cuencas Sagradas

Atossa is the founder and board President of Amazon Watch and the director of global strategy for Amazon Sacred Headwaters Initiative, working to permanently protect 86 million acres of rainforests in Ecuador and Peru. She is the Hillary Institute’s 2013 Global Laureate for Climate Leadership and a part of the founding circle of the Amazon Emergency Fund to bring emergency COVID relief to indigenous peoples of the Amazon.  She served as Amazon Watch's first Executive Director from 1996-2014 and was on the board of trustees of The Christensen Fund from 2008-2017. She was board chair for five years.   She also currently serves on the UN backed Science Panel for the Amazon.
