Scaling FLR implementation through technology (ACTUAL TIME 10:15-12:00)

Why attend
This session is an opportunity to learn about FLRchain – a blockchain powered application designed to maximise incentives and reduce risks to invest in FLR. Interact with some of the team behind this new, transparent and streamlined way of financing FLR.
HideDescription
Globally, implementation of forest landscape restoration (FLR) has increased together with the development of a growing number of technologies that can support FLR implementation. Blockchain, remote sensing or the use of drones are three examples of applications that can support FLR implementation. While technology can improve connections between investors and FLR implementers, it also creates the danger of increasing the gap between those with access to technologies and those that don’t. In this session, three cases will be presented on how technology can be used to attract investment in FLR, improve monitoring and strengthen local governance of implementing restoration. In direct interaction with the audience, the potential pitfalls of using different technologies, such as access by smallholders will be described and listed. Potential solutions to these pitfalls, such as co-development of technological solutions, will be discussed to provide an input for development and application.
