This session will explore the theme of Peace and Biodiversity, and how biodiversity can be a valuable tool for peace. The Peace and Biodiversity Dialogue Initiative's (PBDI) activities in promoting peace will be presented covering a highly successful massive open online course, and the efforts in establishing the PBDI’s first Peace Park.

Biodiversity conservation as a tool for peace, particularly through transboundary conservation will be presented. The PBDI’s experiences from the past five years will be shared including: information and results from the Massive Open Online Course on Peace Park Development and Management; the PBDI’s and its targeted approach to facilitating the establishment of peace parks through research and outreach, presenting a case study on current PBDI activities in West Africa; and the PBDI’s role within the current and future global biodiversity frameworks.
