Nature conservation at large needs funding support. Development cooperation which intends primarily to alleviate poverty by addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as IUCN does, can be a funding partner of nature conservation given the role that natural resources play in addressing many development cooperation challenges such as in particular poverty. However, the nature conservation community and the development cooperation community need to better understand each other to better harness commonalities and take advantage of potential synergies.
The session will explore the potential links, obstacles and opportunities related to the interdependence of nature conservation and development cooperation actors based on concrete cases and derive conceptual reflections for future improvement.
