Euro-Mediterranean ICCAs: Commons for Nature Conservation and Resilience of Local Communities

Why attend
This session will enhance already existing and vivid conservation opportunities of areas and territories conserved by local communities in the understudied regions of Europe and the Mediterranean, providing successful, concrete and inspirational examples from experts and community representatives.
HideDescription
This session will bring together experts and community representatives, whose work and life involve territories and areas conserved by indigenous peoples and local communities (ICCAs-territories of life: www.iccaconsortium.org/index.php/discover) from the European and Mediterranean region. Terrestrial ICCAs-territories of life within the region are indeed very rich and diverse, independently of whether they have been already registered as such or not (www.iccaregistry.org). In terms of nature conservation and socio-ecological resilience, these systems are also really efficient. This session will enable in-depth discussion among community representatives and experts, comparing five emblematic ICCAs within the region, from Morocco, Spain, Croatia, Montenegro and Romania, and will be able to share and analyze their specificities, opportunities and threats that require mobilization.
