Global Youth Action Team on Plastics, Global Youth Action Team on Biodiversity Protection

My name is Melvin Flores, and I’m a Guatemalan biologist. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been interested in environmental protection, so I have been involved in all kinds of activities related to conservation.

My passion for biology and research led me to be part of the Global Youth Action Team (GYAT) supported by WWF, and to be since 2018 the youth ambassador of WWF Mesoamerica. Throughout my professional growth I have had the opportunity to share my love and knowledge about nature with youth from all over the world.

The natural world is being drastically lost, and for decades different scientific studies have shown ways to stop this destruction; however, the necessary actions haven’t been taken to mitigate our impact on ecosystems. I believe that as young people our participation in caring for the environment is vital. We are the last hope of the Earth, the life of thousands of species depends on our actions.
