Dr James HALLETT
Chair, Society for Ecological Restoration
Jim Hallett is Vice Chair of both the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and the Global Partnership for Forest and Landscape Restoration (GPFLR), and an Affiliate Professor at the University of Montana.
Jim has been a principal on projects that directly bear on land management issues. Early research considered the effects of forest management on biodiversity. More recently he has developed monitoring methods to improve outcomes of restoration interventions.
His work with SER and GPFLR to meet the goals of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and other global initiatives addresses the enabling environment for effective restoration. Jim and colleagues revised SER’s International Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration, which clarifies the relationships of various restorative activities and provides guidance to practitioners to improve outcomes. He completed his doctoral work at Texas Tech University in community ecology.
