Dr Jerome LEWIS

Advisor, Synchronicity Earth

Jerome Lewis, Associate Professor of Anthropology at University College London. Since 1993 his research documents Central African hunter-gatherer egalitarian political and economic systems, and how they manage the forest’s abundance through taboo, myth and ritual.

To support these groups’ conservation efforts he developed procedures to implement free, prior and informed consent, that led to the prize-winning Extreme Citizen Science research group developing digital tools accessible to the non-literate to document and address problems they identify in their local area (https://uclexcites.blog/). Jerome also directs the Centre for the Anthropology of Sustainability (CAoS) where he developed the concept of Flourishing Diversity (flourishingdiversity.com). In 2018 CAoS won the Newton Prize for Brazil. He is an advisor to Synchronicity Earth.
