Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:I have been the Executive Director of the Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity Sector of the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi until December 2018, where I oversaw the implementation of plans and programs related to biodiversity conservation. I led initiatives on species assessments, conservation breeding, re-introduction and development of conservation action plans. Our species conservation efforts have paid off as we have a thriving population of the reintroduced Arabian Oryx, the second biggest population of the Dugongs in the world and the largest population of the Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphin. Our Scimitar-horned Oryx program is already a success with over 200 individuals successfully reintroduced in Chad. I introduced relevant policy and regulatory frameworks for sustainable fisheries in Abu Dhabi. As Executive Director of the Sector, I led the establishment of the Zayed Network in 19 terrestrial and marine protected areas in Abu Dhabi, covering 29% of the area. I supported the assessment of the Red List of Species and Invasive Alien Species, and worked on listing Al Wathba as a Green listed site, the first in the UAE. These initiatives are relevant to IUCN, particularly to its Commissions such as SSC and WCPA. As EAD Secretary General, I lead the Agency to achieve its mandate to protect the environment, which includes protecting biodiversity, soil and water resources, all in line with the IUCN mandate to engage governments and civil societies to protect biodiversity.
