Dr Shaikha SALEM AL DHAHERI
Secretary General, Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi
Dr. Shaikha Al Dhaheri is the Secretary General of the Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi (EAD) since 2019, one of the largest environmental organization in the Middle East. She was also the Executive Director of the Biodiversity Sector of the Agency prior to her becoming the Secretary General where she introduced many innovative conservation initiatives on protected areas, threatened species, fisheries and species reintroductions.
She is the IUCN Regional Councilor from the West Asia and has been actively involved in the IUCN governance, including the recruitment process of the new DG. She established the UAE IUCN National Committee, which she also chairs.
Shaikha holds a PhD degree in Wildlife Conservation from the University of Aberdeen in the UK and has two Master's degrees. She has published widely and has won many scholarships and awards, including the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in 2015.
